Matt Taibbi on American Media

Posted September 21, 2006 on 11:43 am | In the category Press | by Jeff

“What a joke American journalism is. Our entire Army is on its knees before a few thousand gun-toting religious fanatics in the Arabian desert, and here’s our government, taking food out of the mouths of foster kids and single moms to go binge-shopping with our tax money in the Sharper Image catalog of the industrial world. And what’s on TV? Fucking Suri Cruise? Are you kidding me?”

Taibbi describes much that is wrong with the way we purchase advanced weapons systems, the way we eliminate social programs in favor of government handouts to the military-industrial complex (remember Eisenhower’s warning?) and the way the American press can be counted on to miss the story.  Taibbi’s piece in Rolling Stone is a great read.

  2. Problem with Taibbi running for President is that he would have to get coverage from the same press that he brilliantly savaged in his campaign pieces that are collected in the book Spanking the Donkey. I am afraid his political future is doomed, unless only Rolling Stone subscribers are allowed to vote.

  3. On his way to the White House (or not), perhaps the “Morning Show” could invite Mr. Taibbi to stop by to discuss contemporary politics and the press. That way, more Americans (more than those who read the Rolling Stone) - would have an opportunity to experience his astute views.
