The critique applies to the media, particularly TV news - broadcast and cable - generally. The 6 o'clock news is urban slaughter, car crashes, and gas prices. Now even the national broadcast TV news - the programs which in the past were anchored by such relative giants as Sevareid, Cronkite, and, a long time ago, Murrow - are now mostly garbage. Guest "reporters" sit before the lead anchor and spout out the trivialities you reference. No wonder the American voter tends to not know his ass from his elbow. No wonder - even more critically - the American student is ill-informed and badly educated. The news programs reflect the masses' interests in an effort to boost ratings, and the masses wander from non-issue to non-issue and think highly of themselves.
